How the difference is found
Total days are the exact number of calendar days between the two dates. The years, months and days breakdown subtracts year by year, month by month and day by day, borrowing the length of the previous month when needed. Working days count Monday to Friday and ignore public holidays.
Worked example
From 1 January 2026 to 1 October 2026 is 273 days: that is 39 weeks exactly, or 9 months. Counting both the first and last day (include end date) gives 274 days.
