Semester GPA (one semester)
HEC marks to grade table
This is the grading table from the HEC Policy Guidelines for the Uniform Semester System (Pakistan):
| Marks % | Grade | Grade points (HEC range) |
|---|---|---|
| 85 and above | A | 3.67 - 4.00 |
| 80 - 84 | A- | 3.34 - 3.66 |
| 75 - 79 | B+ | 3.01 - 3.33 |
| 71 - 74 | B | 2.67 - 3.00 |
| 68 - 70 | B- | 2.34 - 2.66 |
| 64 - 67 | C+ | 2.01 - 2.33 |
| 61 - 63 | C | 1.67 - 2.00 |
| 58 - 60 | C- | 1.31 - 1.66 |
| 54 - 57 | D+ | 1.01 - 1.30 |
| 50 - 53 | D | 0.10 - 1.00 |
| Below 50 | F | 0.00 |
The HEC table has no A+ grade (A covers 85 and above). If your university awards A+, pick it from the grade box by hand; it counts as 4.00. Marks alone always select A at 85+.
HEC gives a range of grade points for each grade. This calculator uses the top value of each range (A = 4.00, A- = 3.66, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, B- = 2.66, C+ = 2.33, C = 2.00, C- = 1.66, D+ = 1.30, D = 1.00), which is the value most universities print on transcripts.
How semester GPA is calculated
GPA for one semester = (sum of grade points × credit hours) ÷ (total credit hours).
Example: Subject A: 88 marks = grade A (4.00), 3 credit hours = 12.00 points. Subject B: 72 marks = grade B (3.00), 3 credit hours = 9.00 points. Subject C: 76 marks = grade B+ (3.33), 2 credit hours = 6.66 points. Total = 27.66 points over 8 credit hours, so GPA = 27.66 ÷ 8 = 3.46.
Important: HEC recommends this table, but some universities use relative grading (grades on a curve) or their own scale, so the marks needed for a grade can differ. Always check your university's policy. This calculator is for estimating; your official transcript is the final word.

FAQ
How do I find my grade from marks under the HEC system?
Enter your percentage in the marks box. For example, 85 and above is A, 80 to 84 is A-, 75 to 79 is B+, 71 to 74 is B, and below 50 is F, as per the HEC table.
How is semester GPA calculated?
Multiply each subject's grade points by its credit hours, add these values, then divide by the total credit hours of the semester.
Will my university's result match this calculator?
Not always. Some universities use relative grading or their own marks ranges and grade points. Check your university's grading policy and transcript.
