Target CGPA Calculator — GPA You Need

Want to raise your CGPA? Enter where you are now and where you want to be, and see the GPA you must score in your coming semester.

Required GPA will appear here.

The formula

Your CGPA is a credit-weighted average. To reach a target after your next semester, the GPA you need is:

Required GPA = (Target × (Done + Coming) − Current × Done) ÷ Coming

Here Done is the total credit hours already completed, and Coming is the credit hours of the semester (or semesters) you are about to take.

Worked example

Current CGPA 3.20 over 60 credit hours, target 3.30, and 18 credit hours next semester. Required GPA = (3.30 × 78 − 3.20 × 60) ÷ 18 = (257.4 − 192) ÷ 18 = 3.63. If the answer is above 4.00, the target cannot be reached in that many credit hours, so plan it across more semesters by increasing the coming credit hours.

Tips

The more credit hours you have already completed, the slower your CGPA moves. Improving early matters most. Also check your university's policy on repeating courses, since a repeat may replace the old grade. To work out this semester's GPA, use the CGPA calculator.

FAQ

How do I calculate the GPA needed to reach my target CGPA?

Use (Target × (Done + Coming) − Current × Done) ÷ Coming, where credit hours are used as weights.

What if the required GPA is more than 4.00?

Then the target is not possible within those credit hours. Try adding more semesters (more coming credit hours) or a lower target.

Does this work on any scale?

Yes, it works on any scale as long as your current CGPA, target and grades use the same scale, for example the HEC 4.0 scale.

Does repeating a course change the result?

It can, depending on your university's rules. Some replace the old grade, others average both. Check your policy.
