Average Calculator — Mean, Median, Mode
Type or paste your numbers separated by commas, spaces or new lines to get the mean, median, mode, range and more.
Formulas
- Mean (average) = sum of all numbers ÷ how many numbers there are.
- Median = the middle value when the numbers are sorted. With an even count, it is the average of the two middle values.
- Mode = the value that appears most often (there can be more than one, or none).
- Range = largest value − smallest value.
Example
Numbers: 12, 15, 15, 20, 28. Sum = 90, count = 5, so mean = 18. Sorted middle value (median) = 15. The value 15 appears twice, so mode = 15. Range = 28 − 12 = 16.

FAQ
How do I calculate the average of numbers?
Add all the numbers and divide by how many there are.
What is the difference between mean and median?
The mean uses every value, so extreme values pull it. The median is the middle value and is less affected by extremes.
Can there be more than one mode?
Yes. If several values appear equally often, all of them are modes. If every value is different there is no mode.
Can I paste numbers from a spreadsheet?
Yes. Numbers separated by spaces, commas or new lines all work.
