How the conversion works

HEC does not publish a single formula to turn CGPA into a percentage. It publishes a table that maps marks ranges to grades and grade points. This calculator uses that table: it finds the grade for your CGPA, shows the marks range for that grade, and estimates where you sit inside that range.

Example: a CGPA of 3.20 falls in grade B+ (grade points 3.01 to 3.33), which is 75 to 79 marks. Placing 3.20 within that band gives an estimate of about 77.4%.

The rough formula (CGPA ÷ 4 × 100)

Some students and employers use CGPA ÷ 4 × 100. For 3.20 that gives 80%. This is a quick approximation, not an HEC rule, and it usually gives a higher number than the HEC table. Whichever value you need, ask your university or the organisation asking for it which method they accept, because an official equivalence letter from your university is what counts.

Percentage to CGPA

Enter your marks and the calculator returns the grade, the HEC grade point range, and the top value of that range, which is what most transcripts print. For example, 78% is grade B+ with grade points up to 3.33.

FAQ

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

Find your grade from the HEC table and read the marks range for it, or use the rough formula CGPA ÷ 4 × 100. The table method follows HEC; the formula is only an approximation.

Is CGPA × 25 the same as percentage?

It is the same as CGPA ÷ 4 × 100. It is a common shortcut but not an official HEC conversion.

Does every university use the same conversion?

No. Universities can use their own scale or relative grading. Ask your university for its official conversion or an equivalence letter.

What CGPA is 60 percent?

Under the HEC table, 58 to 60 marks is grade C- and 61 to 63 is grade C, so 60% is C- with grade points up to 1.66.
