How many test marks do I need?
Fill in the marks above (except the entry test), enter the aggregate you want, and Calvo tells you the test score you need.
The formula
MDCAT merit is a weighted percentage: Aggregate = (Matric ÷ Matric total × 10) + (FSc ÷ FSc total × 40) + (MDCAT ÷ 180 × 50). The MDCAT is marked out of 180 MCQs, one mark each, with no negative marking.
| Part | Weightage | Marks used |
|---|---|---|
| Matric (SSC) | 10% | Total marks, e.g. 1100 |
| FSc (HSSC) | 40% | Full FSc, e.g. 1100 |
| MDCAT | 50% | Score out of 180 |
Worked example
Matric 950 of 1100 at 10%: 950 ÷ 1100 × 10 = 8.64. FSc 980 of 1100 at 40%: 980 ÷ 1100 × 40 = 35.64. MDCAT 150 of 180 at 50%: 150 ÷ 180 × 50 = 41.67. Aggregate = 8.64 + 35.64 + 41.67 = 85.94%.
What about NUMS?
NUMS (Army medical colleges) has its own test and uses a different split: FSc 50% + NUMS test 50% with no Matric. Pick “NUMS” in the formula list above to use it.
Important
The 10 / 40 / 50 split is the PMDC formula for MDCAT-based MBBS and BDS admission. This calculator gives an estimate. Weightages, and even which marks count, can change from one admission cycle to the next, so always confirm with the official prospectus or admission notice. The published merit list is final. You can edit the weightage and total marks in any row.
FAQ
What is the MDCAT aggregate formula?
Aggregate = 10% Matric + 40% FSc + 50% MDCAT. Convert each result to a percentage of its total, multiply by its weightage and add the three parts.
How many marks is the MDCAT out of?
The MDCAT is out of 180 (180 MCQs, one mark each). Enter 180 as the total in the MDCAT row.
Is the MDCAT formula the same in every province?
The PMDC formula of 10/40/50 is used for public sector medical and dental colleges. Some institutions, like NUMS, use their own formula. Check your admission notice.
How many MDCAT marks do I need for a target merit?
Fill in your Matric and FSc marks, type your target aggregate in the second box and press the button. Calvo works out the MDCAT score needed.
Do Hafiz-e-Quran or other bonus marks count?
Some admission policies add bonus marks directly to the aggregate. Enter them in the Bonus box only if your admission notice allows them.
Is the result my official merit?
No. It is an estimate. The merit list published by the admitting authority is final.
